Independent from our intensive course in Arabic in the form of the ‘Certificate in Islamic Studies and Arabic’, we also offer the study of Classical Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic at various levels.

Basic Arabic

Duration: One Semester [Approx. 15 Weeks]

Format: Two half hour live classes per week [*all live lessons are recorded and posted to the student portal] with handouts, exercises, quizzes and an examination [at a centre near you] at the end

Weekly Time Commitment: One hour to participate in live lessons or watch recordings and another hour for review and homework.

Cost: R750 for the entire semester. R350 is payable upon registration and the balance is payable within two months thereafter.

Pre-Requisite:

  • The applicant must be able to recite the Holy Qur’an in its original text of Arabic correctly without understanding. This course will not cover reading of the Arabic script [one could register for our Qur’anic Recitation Course if one cannot read the Qur’anic script]. No prior knowledge of Arabic is required.
  •   A stable, high-speed internet connection and an audio headset

[A] Grammar

  1. Vowels and Diacritical Marks in Arabic
  2. Definite and Indefinite Nouns
  3. Feminine Nouns
  4. Number of Nouns: Dual Nouns, Sound Masculine & Feminine Plurals
  5. Adjectival Phrases
  6. Nominal Sentences
  7. Prepositions
  8. Iḍāfah Constructions
  9. Simple Verbal Sentences
  10. Pronouns:  Personal, Relative, Interrogative & Demonstrative

[B] Morphology [Conjugation of Verbs]

  1. Overview of the Science, Root System & Locating Words in the Dictionary
  2. Triliteral, Regular Verbs, Form One:
    1. Perfect & Imperfect Tenses: Active & Passive
    2. The Six Types
    3. The States of Nasb & Jazm

 

Pre-Intermediate Arabic

Duration: One Semester [Approx. 15 Weeks]

Format: Two half hour live classes per week [*all live lessons are recorded and posted to the student portal] with handouts, exercises, quizzes and an examination [at a centre near you] at the end

Weekly Time Commitment: One hour to participate in live lessons or watch recordings and another hour for review and homework.

Cost: R1000 for the entire semester. R400 is payable upon registration and the balance is payable within two months thereafter.

Pre-Requisite: The applicant must have completed our ‘Basic Arabic’ course or it’s equivalent [RPL required].

Outline:

[A] Grammar: An introduction to I`rab [Desinential Inflection], nouns in the states of Raf`[nominative], Nasb [accusative] and Khafd [Genetive] and regular and irregular signs

[B] Morphology: Mazid Fih [Derived Forms] & Irregular Verbs

 

 

Intermediate Arabic

Duration: One Semester [Approx. 15 Weeks]

Format: Two half hour live classes per week [*all live lessons are recorded and posted to the student portal] with handouts, exercises, quizzes and an examination [at a centre near you] at the end

Weekly Time Commitment: One hour to participate in live lessons or watch recordings and another hour for review and homework.

Cost: R1000 for the entire semester. R400 is payable upon registration and the balance is payable within two months thereafter.

Pre-Requisite: The applicant must have completed our ‘Pre-Intermediate’ course or it’s equivalent [RPL required].

[A] Literature: An intense study of various classical texts to consolidate and apply previous knowledge of grammar and morphology.

[B] Functional Arabic: A themes based approach to learning the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing Modern Standard Arabic

 

Advanced Arabic

Duration: One Semester [Approx. 15 Weeks]

Format: Three half hour live classes per week [*all live lessons are recorded and posted to the student portal] with handouts, exercises, quizzes and an examination [at a centre near you] at the end

Weekly Time Commitment: One and half hours to participate in live lessons or watch recordings and another one and half hours for review and homework.

Cost: R1000 for the entire semester. R400 is payable upon registration and the balance is payable within two months thereafter.

Pre-Requisite: The applicant must have completed our ‘Intermediate’ course or it’s equivalent [RPL required].

[A] Grammar:  A study of the universally acclaimed Arabic primer in grammar, the Matnul-Aajurrumiyyah.

[B] Literature: An intense study of various classical texts [Qur’aanic, Hadith & general] to consolidate and apply previous knowledge of grammar and morphology.

[C] Functional Arabic: A themes based approach to learning the skills of listening, speaking and writing Modern Standard Arabic
